A couple of years ago, Bruce Greyson published a book called “After,” summarizing his half century exploring near-death experiences. Since then he has received a number of e-mails from people who were disappointed that he didn’t discuss in his book a specific topic that they thought he either didn’t mention or shortchanged. Many of those topics were specific religious or spiritual traditions, philosophical perspectives, or neurophysiological models that they thought could explain NDEs. In this presentation, Bruce will review some of the many aspects of NDEs that disappointed readers thought he should have included, focusing on the most commonly mentioned topics: God, animals, reincarnation, the conflict between science and spirituality, and the ultimate meaning of NDEs.
Dr. Bruce Greyson is the Chester Carlson Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences at the University of Virginia. He co-founded the International Association for Near-Death Studies (IANDS), and for 27 years edited the Journal of Near-Death Studies, the only scholarly journal dedicated to near-death research. Through his research, he has discovered common and universal themes in near-death experiences that go beyond neurophysiological or cultural interpretations, as well as patterns of consistent aftereffects on individuals’ attitudes, beliefs, values, and personalities. He was a co-editor of The Handbook of Near-Death Experiences: Thirty Years of Investigation. His most recent book, After: A Doctor Explores What Near-Death Experiences Reveal about Life and Beyond, is his first trade book bringing his scientific research to a popular audience.

However, if we take a closer look at what many NDErs say, the conclusion could be more extreme than just this interconnectedness. It should probably be that we are all ONE, seen from another dimension. Love is what seems to bind us. People would see this truth if they would appreciate the circumstantial evidence in veridical observations. They would then be inspired to more loving actions and humanity could really take a beneficial next step forward.
